Milberry farms

Exclusive equestrian facility in the Californian sun

Milberry Farm is a unique equestrian facility in sunny southern California. The owners have specialised in training talented jumping horses and their riders. With the centre Sara Mertz and Mike Brawner have fulfilled a long-cherished dream. Sara grew up in Montana and Utah and Mike is from the Chicago area. They met at university in Los Angeles and moved to the San Diego area after graduating and getting married. They had thought about buying their own facility for a long time, but there were few opportunities available. One day, a farm that the two had passed many times was put on the market. Sara and Mike decided to give it a try. It was an elaborate renovation project with great results.

They chose the "Berlin” horse stall model. “Since we have a very wide stable aisle, we wanted the horses to be able to see out of the stalls without any obstructions. We fell in love with the curved design of the stall. It goes perfectly with our stables and the horses feel very comfortable," commented Sara and Mike. After completion of the renovation and conversion work, there is now room for 20 horses in the private equestrian centre. All horses in the barn are trained by Sara or the Woodgrove trainer team consisting of Guillermo Obligado and Lynn Witte, who now also reside at Milberry Farm. The team at Woodgrove Farm and Sara have known one another for more than 20 years. Sara used to specialise in eventing. Today she devotes her time to jumping. Training talented show jumpers and horses is her passion. The Woodgrove team also successfully deals with marketing of the horses.

Milberry Farm is located in the community of Rancho Santa Fe, California. The locals are proud of the many equestrian facilities and horses in the area and have created 80 km of bridle paths. These also pass Milberry Farm.  The training programme of the sport horses is supplemented by relaxing rides in the countryside which ensure a healthy balance for both horses and riders.

While Sara can devote most of her time to the horses, Mike still has to take care of the administration work and maintenance of some rental properties that they own. However, they both support one another in their respective jobs and vocations. Mike Brawner comments: “We discovered the Germans make the best horse equipment. That's why we chose Röwer & Rüb, but also Regupol and Summerwind." We are very pleased to be held in such high regard and wish Sara Metz, Mike Brawner and the Woodgrove Trainer Team all the best and much success in the future.
