Yeguada Palacio de Villafruela
An exemplary project for an equestrian centre for broodmares
Spain. The Yeguada Palacio de Villafruela is located in the middle of the rural idyll of northern Spain, more precisely in Perales near Palencia. Spacious pastures as far as the eye can see as well as grass paddocks that surround the manor house and horse stables. Breeding of jumping horses is a very important aspect of the work of the Yeguada Palacio de Villafruela. Spanish warmblood horses have been successfully bred here for years. A total of ten broodmares graze together with their foals on the pastures. The older mares can relax while grazing on the neighbouring meadows. The facility is in a gorgeous setting with wonderful views and offers heavenly conditions for the horses.
A former cattle barn serves as a horse stable. Before its renovation it was too dark for the horses and not suitable for their accommodation. For this reason extensive reconstruction work was required. Thanks to the expert advice of our Spanish partner Sotoancho Instalaciones Hípicas, the cattle barn has been transformed into a spacious and bright horse stable that enhances the overall ambience of the stud. The client’s wishes and ideas were adapted to the structural conditions and used as a basis for further design and development. A horse stable has been built where the broodmares can enjoy their ideal surroundings.
A total of 19 horse stalls have been installed in the new stable and provide a new home for the broodmares. They have plenty of space, as the stall dimensions are 5 x 3.25 metres. The extra-large stalls offer the mares with foals extra freedom of movement. The breeder chose the "Verden” model for the stalls. The design is minimalist with clear lines and fits in very well with the rural charm of the complex. During the selection process it was very important to the client that the horse stalls are practical, safe and that everyday work in the stable is made easier as a result. The fronts were additionally reinforced to ensure that the mares and foals are protected and safe in every situation. As the fronts and partitions have bamboo infills, they also have a high impact resistance. Bamboo is not only a sustainable raw material, but also very durable and robust.
The stable building has skylights distributed over the entire roof area. This means that the stable always has natural light, which is good for the mares' healthy biorhythms, even when they are standing in the stable.
We would like to thank the client for placing their trust in our products and our Spanish partner Sotoancho Instalaciones Hípicas for the excellent collaboration. We wish the Yeguada Palacio de Villafruela continuing success in the future!
