New State of the Art Yard for Martyn Meade Racing - Internationally renowned thoroughbred Trainer Martyn Meade has entrusted 21st Century Horse Ltd with the internal design and fit out of 40 stables initially at his new Manton Estate facility near Marlborough.
Commenting on the appointment Mr. Meade said, “I saw what 21st Century had achieved at Rathmoy Stables in Newmarket and wanted the equivalent exceptional quality and engineering for Manton”. “This is the first time I have encountered this level of design and manufacturing expertise in this specialist market”.
Initially the facility will comprise 2 x 45m long barns each with 20 x 4.5m x 4.2m boxes. The barns, the shells of which are in existence, will be subject to a complete makeover to bring them in line with future expansion plans that are being compiled by specialist equestrian architects “Keith Warth & Associates. KWA were also responsible for Rathmoy.
The barns once renovated will feature Röwer & Rüb’s “Hamburg Model Fronts” incorporating their patented “Hidden Sliding Mechanism”. Each stable will have matching Solid Partitioning and a Turn & Tilt window. All steelwork will be galvanised, sand blasted and then Powder Coated in charcoal grey using the company’s highly specialist and bespoke system. Infill will be in Bamboo rather than a hard wood as this is far stronger and does not shrink and warp, neither do horses crib on it. This combination of design, materials and equipment provides the ultimate in safety for the horses wellbeing whilst also minimizing future maintenance.
The second phase of the project will involve a further 52 internal stables and a 10 horse “Teomatic” RING Oval horse-walker which whilst being renowned for animal welfare also gives greater exercising flexibility due to the fact that it is possible to trot the horses.
Jamie Bennett, 21st Century’s Commercial Director said “ We are thrilled to have been awarded the contract and will work closely with Architects KWA, the Builder and the “Meade Team” to ensure that Martyn realizes the concept he has in mind for both the immediate renovation of the barns, but also the future development of the total facility.” “It is a wonderful opportunity for us to demonstrate the comprehensive nature of our service and capability”. “We have, in recent years, been heavily involved in the Lambourn area having completed new stabling for Sir Tony McCoy, Clive Cox and Fiona Marner”.
